Growing Baby corn
Growing Baby corn
Seeds - One may buy from the gardening shop. There are hybrid seeds which are better for baby corn, than using sweet corn seeds and taking an early crop.
Setting up pots - Keep the garden soil in sun for a day or two as it re-energies the soil. Mix soil with fine organic compost in the ratio of 2:1/ 3:2. I have used pots of size 1 ft * 1.5 (d) ft to grow, but I feel few more inches of depth will help in better yield. If you have dried cow manure use that too that takes care of some pests naturally.
Sowing - Sow the seeds half inch below the soil. Water it well and cover the top for a day or two / provide some shade. Transplant may not work so sow them directly in pots. I have put 2 plants in one pot but I'm going to try 4 in one next time to see the results.
Watering & Placement - corn like dry and well drainage soil and good sun exposure. So don't give too much water and ensure no stagnant water. Place them in 2/3 rows together as cross pollination helps to get better yield.
Detasseling - Top of plant, male flower will come which may attract insects as well. So once you see, take it out gently, also rem cross pollination is better than self pollination.

Fruit- Per plant I am getting 2 corn, about 60-70 days later of sowing, perhaps it's the early variety I'm using.
Fertiliser - I didn't use any fertiliser but a good soil in the start is better. I have put egg shells one time to plants.
Pest control - First of all, try not to use the inorganic solutions, they are nothing less of poison. One time I used neem sol. I didn't see many insects apart from top of plant where male flower emerges. There were some 🐞 too so they were keeping other insects in check.
Nutrition Facts - it's rich in iron, vitamin A and C, fiber, proteins and rich in antioxidants.
